Sedona Events: Chamber Music Sedona Presents Acclaimed Piano Duo Valentina Lisitsa & Alexei Kuznetsoff 5/24

Musical Memorial Day Holiday In Sedona May 24

The sounds of world-class music will resound Memorial Day weekend in Sedona, welcoming visitors and residents alike, when internationally acclaimed pianist Valentina Lisitsa returns to Sedona for a 2:30pm concert Sunday, May 24 together with husband Alexei Kuznetsoff following their postponed Chamber Music Sedona performance March 15 when Ms. Lisitsa was invited to perform the Beethoven Emperor Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, stepping in for Helene Grimaud March 13, 14 and 15.

Ms. Lisitsa first appeared in Sedona in October 2007 with violinist Hilary Hahn. It was this association with Hahn at a March 2009 Chicago Symphony Orchestra Recital series concert that Ms. Lisitsa was invited to make her CSO debut. The May 24 program will include music by Debussy, Schubert, Brahms and Beethoven.

This brilliant young piano-duo from Ukraine came to the United States with an impressive list of competition prizes to its credit and is winning critical acclaim in the U.S. as gifted artists making a genuine contribution to the marvelous but, seldom-heard literature for two pianos. By the time Valentina and Alexei met at the Kiev Conservatory, they were both winners of numerous international, national and local solo and chamber music competitions. In 1990, after only a few weeks of preparation, Lisitsa and Kuznetsoff captured the first prize at the Ukrainian Chamber Music Competition.

In a recent review, The Dallas Morning News said, “Lisitsa and Kuznetsoff’s playing is all the grapevine said it was — miraculous. It is not simply that their ensemble skills are so uncommon; more to the point, these two bright, attractive performers manage to react as one while maintaining a flexibility of phrase and a freedom of gait commanded by few other duo-pianists.”
A pre-concert talk will take place from 1:15-1:55pm by Coconino Community College Music Instructor and pianist Chase Coleman in the Don Bosco Room at St. John Vianney Church immediately before the concert. Call 928.204.2415 for more information or visit http://chambermusicsedona.org/descriptions.htm for more information.

Ms. Lisitsa and Mr. Kuznetsoff will give a master class immediately following the concert for Northern Arizona pianists who have participated in the Quick-Bowman Piano Competition, held annually for eighteen years.
