Sedona Events - Celebrate Earth Day in the Red Rocks

Sedona, Arizona is one of the best places on Earth to celebrate Earth Day because we bring GREEN and RED together! Red rocks and green living meet in a city that hopes to be known for years to come as one of premiere eco-tourism destinations in the world. Travelers come to Sedona from all over the world to stay in eco-friendly resorts like Los Abrigados Resort & Spa, to shop at environmentally conscious businesses like New Frontiers Natural Marketplace, to cruise Sedona on electric toys, to dine at cafes that offer natural and organic selections like the Secret Garden Cafe and of course, to soak in the mystical energy of Sedona.

You'll also find that those of us who call Sedona home are working hard to make our community greener through our schools, recycling centers, and plans for the future of our city. Sedona organizations like Keep Sedona Beautiful and Sustainable Arizona work tirelessly together for the future of our planet and our city. In fact, right now Sedona's celebrating Water Awareness for the entire month of April!

Its pretty easy to appreciate and honor our sacred Earth when surrounded by the reverent beauty of towering red rock mountains. Sedona is a city unlike any other in the world and we've been going green for awhile now so each year, there's more and more ways to celebrate Earth Day.

Sedona International Film Festival Presents "Pirate for the Sea", Environmentally Conscious Film
Tuesday 4/21 at Harkin's Theatres, 4 pm and 7 pm

The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Arizona Premiere of “Pirate for the Sea” on Tuesday, April 21. There will be two screenings of the film at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. on at Harkins Sedona Six Theatres. The film is the second in a five-week “Premiere Series” that will continue every Tuesday through mid-May.

“Pirate for the Sea” had its premiere at the Telluride Film Festival last fall and has gone on to play numerous prestigious festivals around the world (including the Berlin and Seattle International Film Festivals), and has won "Best Feature Documentary" at the Boulder International Film Festival, the "Environmental Award" at the San Francisco Ocean Film Festival, and was a nominee for the "Social Justice Award" at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

The writer/director/producer of the film, Ron Colby, and the co-producer Patricia van Ryker will be in Sedona to host the premiere and conduct a Q&A discussion following both screenings.
“This is the perfect film for us to feature on the eve of Earth Day, and it is one of the most environmentally thought-provoking films you’ll see,” said festival director Patrick Schweiss. “It is an important and timely film about a very powerful topic that needs to be brought to the attention of the entire world.”

Great post! I love Sedona. My sister lives in Flag, so I always make it back through there when I visit. (We like Nirup at the shops on the main drag, too.) Sustainable Arizona signed up for our program. They do great work! Sedona is truly a one of a kind place!

We'll put a link to this on our Earth Day blog post! Thanks!
