First Friday at Sedona Arts Center Kicks Off 4th Annual Sedona Pin-up Show May 1st

First Friday at Sedona Arts Center
Beauty of Light Exhibit, Talented Poets, Pin-up Show

SEDONA, AZ. (April 22, 2008): Mark your calendars for the Sedona Arts Center’s First Friday Activities on May 1st, 5 – 8pm. The evening opens at 4:00pm for an hour of poetry at Poets Corner. Enjoy the return of two audience favorites: KC Baker from San Francisco and Amy Mae Calhoun from Prescott. Opening for them will be Lynn Heil from Sedona who will be reading his poetry publicly for the first time. Poets Corner performances will be followed by opening receptions from 5 – 8pm for the Center’s two new exhibits. Join us for evening of art and fun! Everyone is invited – no admission for the events.

The Fine Art Gallery’s May exhibit, “Beauty of Light,” is one that you do not want to miss. The show features the unique works of four talented member artists: Marlys K. Mallet and Michael Redhawk with their captivating Unison Series, amazing art quilts by Jane Defoe, beautiful ceramic art by Dennis Ott, and exquisite jewelry by Michael Redhawk. The exhibit will run through June 3rd ~ open daily from 10am – 5pm.

The 4th Annual Sedona Pin-Up Show, located in the Community Gallery, is a celebration of art in the raw – ready for you to find those pieces you cannot live without - and later enjoy the experience of choosing the matting and frames that will harmonize perfectly with your home or office decor. This could be the opportunity of a lifetime to buy a piece created by a local well-known artist or possibly one yet undiscovered at a very reasonable price. Everything in the show will be priced from $50 to $500 – something is bound to catch your eye – and match your pocketbook! This unusual and exciting exhibition runs for only three days! It opens with the reception on Friday, May 1st from 5 – 8pm and continues on Saturday, May 2nd and Sunday, May 3rd from 10am – 5pm.

The Annual Pinup Show was organized four years ago to attract a wide variety of artists from all around the area. The show is unusual for Sedona and the Arts Center because it is non-juried and open to all artists of any level from Yavapai and Coconino Counties – including children.

Begin the evening with the Poetry Readings in the Sculpture Garden, join the revelry and buying frenzy at the 4th Annual Pin-up Show in the Community Gallery, and bask in the beauty of the unique creations by the featured artists in the Fine Art Gallery.

Ground-breaking Sedona Event: Return of the Ancestors April 18-28

A historic event is about to take place right here in Sedona, Arizona.

It will impact the world for generations to come.

Many believe this event fulfills the ancient Mayan prophecies about the year 2012.

Be part of the Return of the Ancestors - a gathering of the indiginous elders of the world, coming together with one common goal...peace...on...Earth.

The Wisdom keepers and indigenous peoples from all over the earth are gathering in Sedona on April 18th -19th which many believe fulfills the ancient prophecy of the Condor and the Eagle where the Condor of the South unites with the Eagle of the North.

"The Institute for Cultural Awareness presents a historic International multicultural gathering and sacred pilgrimage welcoming Indigenous elders and future wisdom keepers representing the voice of Mother Earth, beginning Earth Day weekend, April 18-28, 2009 throughout Northern Arizona. The heart of the gathering will be the 4th reunion of the Continental Council of Indigenous Elders and Spiritual Guides of the Americas. The intention is to unite and share the invited wisdom keeper's visions and prophesized ceremonies for peace and harmony for Mother Earth and all humanity."

~ The Insititute for Cultural Awareness

This is one Sedona event you don't want to miss.

Continued from The Insitute of Cultural Awareness:

Humanity has waited for the day of peace and harmony to reign in this world for hundreds of years. We are at a pivotal point where action needs to be taken. We must move in a new direction towards each individual seeking the healing of their ancestral memories to enable humanity to move forward. A proclamation will be made for the ancestral memories to be healed globally for all time and space.

We are now living in a time of our truth and an intertwined field of destiny mending the circle of life. Let us look at the truth: the tree of life, the seed of life, the flower of life. The world has awaited a renewed life's plan. We look towards our grand elders and wisdom keepers' Cosmovision for specific instructions and guidance towards the reconnection to the natural laws. The seen and unseen from the past, present and future unfold. Destiny brings us all to this point in time. The men and women of wisdom have returned. History and Herstory is unfolding in front of our very own eyes.

The Institute for Cultural Awareness' goal is to sponsor 72 or more global spiritual/cultural leaders and 28 youth council leaders from around the world. These wisdom keepers will share a harvest of harmonic wisdom and understandings that will enable the world to fulfill the prophecies of the ancestors. This gathering's commitment to ceremony as a focal point offers pilgrims of the world the privilege to witness councils sharing wisdom from their ancestors, songs and sacred ceremonies. This intention is to bring inspiration to the world thus birthing clear decisions and manifesting a conduit of hope for our children, the future wisdom keepers of the world.

Whether attending the gathering physically or through private ceremony, everyone is being called to participate in this historic and extraordinary event. Through humanity’s enlightenment, once again we will live in balance and harmony with Mother Earth. All is in divine timing!

One Mayan prophecy states, “At the time of the 12 Baktun and 13 Ahau is the time of the return of our ancestors and the return of the men of wisdom.” “That time is now,” says Grandfather Alejandro Cirilo Oxlaj, President of the National Mayan Council of Elders of Guatemala and President of the Continental Council of Indigenous Elders and Spiritual Guides of the Americas.
The Institute for Cultural Awareness is a 501c (3) non-profit corporation coordinating this monumental gathering. The vision of ICA is strong and motivated with a desire to build a better future for our children. Your support will provide a firm foundation to create a broader expression of service for humanity.

Our goal is to raise 1.5 million dollars for the Return of the Ancestors Gathering. To learn more about how you can support ICA and the preparations for this gathering, please feel free to contact ICA directly at 928-6463000 or visit our website: www.ica8.org

Your Sedona Concierge Recommendations

Hi, I'm Megan, your Sedona Concierge. Got a burning question about What to See & Do in Sedona? Looking for the best Sedona hotels & motels, restaurants, galleries, shops, spas and more? Post a question! The best ones will be replied to right here on our Sedona.tv Blog with videos and customized recommendations to help you make the most out of your time in the Red Rocks!

Hi Megan! Thanks for all the helpful info so far! Lunch on the way up - was thinking the Asylum in Jerome, but then we miss that spectacular drive in to Sedona coming the back way. Any thoughts? Other plans are the Pink Jeep tour (Broken Arrow), dinner at Cafe Elote (love that place!), playing the horses at Stakes and Sticks, and lunch/dinner the day we head out. Maybe L'Auberge for lunch by the creek or Tii Gavo at Enchantment, dinner at Cucina Rustica. ~Rubee

Great choices so far Rubee! If you want a casual, super yummy breakfast or lunch try Secret Garden Cafe at Tlaquepaque...location is beautiful, food is healthy and delicious.

If you want something more formal, I recommend breakfast at L'Auberge over lunch. Cucina Rustica is an excellent restaurant for dinner - try the Grilled Artichoke appetizer - I've never had anything like it in my life!

I also like Cowboy Club's Silver Saddle Room or Redstone Cabin for dinner - you'll get to try some unique items if you like plus the service is impeccable and the food is unbelievable. TRY THE CACTUS FRIES just so you can say you did! LOL!

Make sure you do the drive up/down Oak Creek Canyon. Oak Creek Canyon was named one of the top 10 most scenic drives in America by Rand McNally.

Jerome is very cool, too! You can never go wrong with a visit to the Asylum - it kind of sits off the side of a cliff overlooking the Verde Valley. I also recommend the Haunted Hamburger for lunch. I've never tried it myself but all the locals rave about it.

Broken Arrow Tour with Pink Jeep Tours is one of the best jeep tours in town. You will love it! If you can book it for sunset time, you'll find it even more breathtaking. Also visit http://www.pinkjeep.com/ and sign up for their E-Newsletter to get discounts!

Last but not least, just for fun, you might consider trying a pyschic reading - its a true Sedona experience! I've had some really amazing readings at the Center for the New Age.

Hope you enjoy your trip here! Please come back and comment on how you liked all of my recommendations!

Ask Megan - Your Sedona Concierge

Hi, I'm Megan Aronson, your Sedona Concierge. I am the expert on all things Sedona! From current events to restaurant recommendations, hotels and B&B's to hiking trails and golf courses...and EVERYTHING in between!

You can find videos on Sedona Lodging, Shops, Galleries, Restaurants, Spas, Retreats, Spirituality and much more right here on Sedona.tv but if you've got a burning question about how you can make the most out of your time in the red rocks, just ask! I'll pick the best questions and respond right here on our Sedona.tv Blog, making several recommendations for you. I'll also include informative videos so you can see for yourself which shops, restaurants, galleries, spas, and lodging choices will make YOUR trip to Sedona the most memorable. You might start off by watching the video below - it'll give you a great overview of Sedona to help you plan your trip here.

I know when I travel, I always want to know where the locals go because those are usually the best places to visit - the places that create lasting memories that you will talk about for years to come. So consider me your local insider! Want to know where you can have the best massage of your life? Looking for a less-traveled, still spectacular path for a romantic hike in the red rocks? Wondering where you can have an authentic Sedona pyschic reading or healing session? Trying to find a restaurant unlike any other you've ever been to? I've got answers to all your questions! I'm also a Mom, a dog-owner and an "eco-tourist" so if you want pet-friendly, kid-friendly or GREEN recommendations, I've got those too!

A Little More About Me

I'm the host of "Out & About with Megan" on Red Rock TV Channel 16 here in beautiful Sedona and before that I was a Concierge for several years at one of Sedona's top resorts. I've lived in Sedona for almost 9 years and my family has been here for over 40 years. In fact, my parents met here in Sedona in my grandmother's 8th grade choir class (and they are still married!). I've been visiting Sedona all my life and in the year 2000, I moved to Sedona "temporarily," got the infamous "Red Rock Fever" and never left. Now I couldn't imagine living anywhere else in the world. The incredible energy of this magical place has changed me forever and continues to speak to me day after day. I feel so blessed to call Sedona home and now I am excited to share my home with you!

I've responded to several questions on Twitter already but its so hard to tell followers about all the great things to see & do here in just 140 characters so from now on, I'm going to pick some questions to respond to here on our Sedona.tv Blog so I can give a more detailed response complete with videos!

If you've got a question, please post it in the COMMENTS area! You can also visit our FAQ's page for a list of frequently asked questions on Sedona's weather, the Red Rock Pass, how to pronounce that strange word Tlaquepaque (and what exactly is it?!), why the rocks are red, what is a Vortex and much more. Take a little time to watch the video below and I guarantee you'll be packing your bags heading to Sedona soon as you can!

-

P.S. You don't have to be traveling to Sedona to have a burning question about our Red Rock Country - feel free to post questions whether or not you're comin' for a visit!

See you in the red rocks - I promise, you're going to have the TIME OF YOUR LIFE!!!
